As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Prior Strikes

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny

The government has faced increasing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
